Dave Matheny - Banjo/Founder

Born and raised in Broad Oaks (Clarksburg) WV, Dave was raised like any other typical American boy. He might have been a little rambunctious but who isn't at times. Dave's story of the banjo is not the typical story. Most of his youth was made up of native trout fishing streams (still today) and training with Clarksburg's favorite son Tommy "Franco" Thomas who contended for some of boxing's great bouts. He never picked up the banjo until the age of 40 and is still learning and growing. He's a collective when it comes to music. He enjoys many different genres, but he's favorite is the 60's Era. He is a great asset to the band!

Leanne Dotson - Vocalist/MC

Hailing from Bridgeport, West Virginia, Leanne is no stranger to music. Singing pretty much all her life, she has attend and performed at numerous fairs, festivals and multiple venues in and around the state. Being a proud Air force wife, Leanne along with her husband raises 3 kids of her own. Plus, she is a teacher at Heritage Christian School shaping the youth of tomorrow. Leanne carries the bands foundation vocally and is part of the sound of Blue Steel. She also helps poor Justin with the MC work during the band's performances. She loves music and is partial to country, americana, gospel and of course bluegrass. Leanne is also one of the founding members of Blue Steel.

Nate Linger - Mandolin/Vocals

Nate calls Buckhannon, WV his hometown. He is an accomplished mandolin player as well as banjo, guitar, bass...etc. You name it, Nate can probably play it. Not only is he an accomplished musician he is also a practicing doctor graduating from West Virginia University. He always has time in his schedule for both music and patient care, which most of the members of Blue Steel doesn't know how. Nate's rich creativity in the group defines the sound of Blue Steel. He is also one of the founding members of the band and keeps the group moving forward.

Logan Matheny - Upright Bass/Acoustic Bass

Logan is from a small community of Coburn's Creek (Clarksburg) in West Virginia. He graduated only three years ago from high school and in that time has became a much needed asset for Blue Steel. Logan has risen to the challenge when the band had no bass player. He took lessons on the upright bass as a small child and then pursued other things as time went on; however whenever the band decided to give him a call, he did not hesitate. Logan's solid rhythm and crafted bass lines round out the sound for Blue Steel. It used to be Justin showing Logan some notes and now its impossible for Logan to show Justin notes. He is a talented musician and Blue Steel gives all the credit to their foundation man!

Molly Riffle - Fiddle/Vocals

Molly is an experienced musician from Davisson Run in Clarksburg, WV. Molly grew up with bluegrass, acoustic and gospel at every corner in her daily life. She gives the band so much with her talent both on the fiddle and vocally. She is always willing to help the band at every turn as well as being a nurse, both work hand in hand. Most of her influences are from the bluegrass scene; Adam Steffey, Barry Abernathy, Russell Moore and her favorite fiddler Jim Van Cleve. Her vocal abilities can match any lead making the harmony sound as though it were a family affair. Her busy schedule on and off the stage keeps her going as well as the band.

Justin Riffle - Guitar/Vocals

Justin grew up and lived in the vast countryside of Kincheleo, West Virginia. Music has been a major influence in his life. So much in fact that his family (The Riffle Family) sang gospel music for 20 years. They traveled and ministered anywhere and everywhere God led them. He started out on bass, then piano and then the guitar and most of his training was given by his parents. They really didn't have that much to work with! Justin joined Blue Steel along with his wife Molly officially in 2015 and has had a blast ever since. His hard driving rhythm give Blue Steel the fullest sound. His mother being one of his influences for songwriting, Justin has wrote a few originals for Blue Steel and hopes to continue in the future. If anything he tries to bring out the best in his band mates.
